 Co-operation

Visit a co-op

Aim: To find out more about co-operative businesses by visiting a co-op You will need: A co-op to visit, or a representative to visit you. Duration: 1 hour

Do you know of any local co-operative businesses? There are more co-operatives in existence than we often realise. Ask around if there are any co-operatives in your area which you would be able to visit.

Ask a representative some questions. Tell them you are interested in the process involved in setting up and running a co-operative business.

You could ask some of the following questions:

  • What does this co-operative do?
  • How did this co-operative begin?
  • What financial support, if any, has been necessary?
  • How many members are there?
  • How are any profits used?
  • Has the co-operative faced any difficulties?
  • What are the business plans for the future?
