Activities at the Festival

The type of activities which will be on offer that the Global Village Youth Festival include:

  • Simulation games on trade, education, governance, child labour, co-operatives, aid, gender equality;
  • World Youth Parliament debating each of the programme themes, with keynote speakers, eg Minister for International Development;
  • Discussion workshops, films, exhibitions facilitated by speakers from, for example, World Development Movement, War on Want, Global March Against Child Labour, Labour Behind the Label, Global Campaign for Education, HIV/AIDS organizations, ICFTU;
  • Fair Trade caf�and tuck shop - run as youth co-ops on Festival site;
  • Video conference link-ups with young people in developing countries;
  • 'Footprint' research project to establish environmental impact of different participating nations;
  • Practical workshops building alternative energy systems, with discussion of their feasibility in meeting global energy needs;
  • Drama, music, dance and arts workshops and performances reflecting both the cultural diversity and the interconnectedness, common hopes and aspirations of young people from South and North.
