About the project
Site Chosen for Festival
Kent County Showground, about 5 miles from Maidstone, has been chosen as the site for the 2006 festivities. The agricultural show site is located on the North Downs within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and surrounded by woodland.
The site boasts first-class facilities including newly built toilet and shower blocks, an array of large buildings and a huge permanent marquee which should shelter our whole-camp events from the vagaries of the English summer.
There is a good supply of water, electricity, and phone infrastructure around the site for those who like all mod-cons in their village but there are plenty of outlying pitches for groups who prefer a more basic approach. The showground covers approximately 140 acres, with a further 70 acres of adjacent woodland belonging to it.
The site is served by good public transport links from London and other parts of the south-east. Access from Gatwick, Heathrow, and the channel ports will also assist the travel arrangement of our international visitors.
"We have been delighted by the helpfulness of the Kent County Showground staff," said Julie Thorpe. "The site has everything we could possibly want for this type of event."
