Circle time
Aim:
To introduce the idea of Child Labour to younger children.
You will need:
A group of people.
Duration:
15 minutes
Introduce a discussion about child labour with younger children. These are some suggested questions to ask to get everyone talking:
- Have you ever done a job for someone, to earn money? Did you need the money, or was it extra pocket money?
- Who pays for your food, clothes and house?
- What would you do if your parents/guardians could not afford to pay for things?
- How old does someone need to be to get a job?
- Does it matter if someone misses school to go to work?
- Is it ok for children to work if their family needs the money?
Explain that some poor children have to go to work to earn money to support their families. This means they miss out on school. They may also suffer from doing dangerous tasks and being in risky situations. It would be better if young children never needed to go to work.
