 Co-operation

Starting with me

Co-operation is essential for avoiding conflict and getting along with other people. In our more and more crowded world we need to co-operate with our neighbours to ensure everyone has a good life. Think about ways to be more co-operative in your daily life. These are some ideas:
Offer to do a favour for someone in return for a favour
Lend something to a friend, such as a book or a toy
Share your magazines when you have finished reading them
Offer to get errands for your neighbours when you are going out anyway

People co-operate in all sorts of ways. Have you ever had a really good idea to do something and then once you tried to start, realised 'Hey I need some help and support here'?

What was the idea? Did you form a sports team, or a club? Did you build something? Did you start doing something challenging or learn a difficult skill? Did you have to overcome a problem that needed more than just yourself?

Did you get support? Who helped you? Did it work? How did you succeed in working together?

Do you have any tips to offer other people working together to make an idea into a reality? Send your story to the Global Village website to tell other young people about it.

Find out more about LETS. This stands for Local Exchange Trading Systems. They are local community trading groups, where members exchange goods and services with no need for money. The group keeps a record of all transactions, showing how many favours each member has given and received.
