UN bingo
Aim:
To have fun, and become familiar with the names of countries.
You will need:
Country bingo cards, pens, slips of paper, a container, globe or world map (optional).
Duration:
20 minutes
Beforehand prepare bingo cards for each player, using the lists of countries below (each card will have 8 countries written on it). Write each of the countries you have used on a slip of paper, and put these into a container. If you have more than ten players, you can make up your own cards, using different combinations of countries, or people can play in pairs.
Pull out one country at a time. Anyone who has that country on their card should tick it. When someone has a full set they must call out 'United Nations'.
Explain that there are 191 members of the United Nations. You can see the full list of members and the date when they joined the UN on http://www.un.org/Overview/unmember.html. The United Nations (or 'UN') was set up in 1945 as a way of bringing countries together after the Second World War. The UN deals with lots of important issues like health, child welfare, peace and the environment.
Extra option:
You could follow up by asking the group if they can find their countries on a globe or world map.
