Opinion Survey
Aim:
To find out people's opinions about education.
You will need:
A list of the questions, a pen, a group of people to survey.
Duration:
30 minutes.
Carry out a quick opinion survey in your group or class. Ask people if they agree or disagree with these statements about education. At the end calculate your results. Think of an imaginative way to display your findings. For example you could make a poster with captions such as '95% of people questioned think teachers should be paid more money'.
Agree/Disagree statements to ask:
- Education in poorer countries should be paid for by aid from richer countries.
- Literacy skills are essential for adult life.
- More efforts should be made to get girls into school, than are made for boys.
- Teachers should be paid more money.
- We learn more outside school than we learn in the classroom.
- Everybody should be able to go to secondary school.
- There is no point people going to school in areas with high unemployment, as school leavers will not be able to get a job anyway.
- Young people must learn practical skills at school to help them live in the world.
- Parents should pay for sending their children to school.
- Many subjects taught at school are not relevant to real life.
- Homework should be compulsory to encourage children to work hard.
- School days are the best years of your life.
