 The Global Voice

Issue 2 – Monday 31 July

Around the world to the Global Village

It’s been to Bulgaria, Belgium and Brazil - and now it’s here at Global Village for the latest stop in its worldwide tour. Part of a British Council initiative, the NorthSouthEastWest exhibition shows how climate Change is already impacting on people’s lives from around the world.
Featuring the work of leading photographers, the images not only illustrate how carbon emmissions are touching every corner of the globe, but also demonstrate some of the ways that people and governments are already acting to combat its effects.
Alex Webb’s photo (above), just one of the many in the exhibition, shows how wind and solar energy can be a cheap and reliable way of providing power for isolated communities, such as Hluleka in South Africa.
Other images from places as varied as Greenland, Kenya, the Marshall Islands and Japan capture the beauty of these natural and urban landscapes, whilst examining the effects of Climate Change on the regions’ food, economy, health and people.
Leornardo de Caprio is one of the faces and voices helping the exhibition make a difference: “Whilst our federal government fails to act in the United States, I urge individuals to ask their local leaders to purchase clean cars, build green facilities and buy green power. Our actions may determine if we win or loose the war for a habitable planet.”
