Issue 8 – Monday 7 August

Whatever happened to the news?

Joe MacMahon, V2

On Saturday night, the entire camp was deprived of the evening news for a whole half hour! We wanted to know why.
"Almost everything you can possibly imagine went wrong with the news," said Richard Lace, the media centre co-ordinator.
Firstly the computer file which holds the whole broadcast became corrupted and inaccessible, leaving them no time to put it onto a tape to broadcast. So, they took the computer over to the transmitting room and tried to play it from there, only to find that the computer was in an antisocial mood and refused to talk to the transmitting machine.
Meanwhile, the night before, it appeared that Tarzan had been swinging through the trees in the woods near Green Turtle town and accidentally snapped the cable which supplied the nightly broadcast to Blue Whale and Indigo Snake towns, which then had to be fixed. A short-circuit then caused the receiver at Green Turtle marquee to not be able to receive sound, so it had to be swapped for a spare receiver.
After half an hour the news trudged half-heartedly onto the screens of the camp, however the producers had to miss out a lot of news items, including the (in)famous March of the Woodcraft. These will hopefully be shown on Monday.
