Die Falken
In the 8th edition of The Global Voice an article was printed which not only gives a totally wrong picture of the organisation Sozialistische Jugend Deutschlands-Die Falken. It also promotes primitive nationalism and reactionary thinking. We reject both!
One cannot speak of ‘the Germans’ in a general sense, notably one cannot say that ‘the Germans’ are ‘tolerant’ and ‘open-minded’. In many German regions there are ‘no-go-areas’ with massive racist attacks on migrants and a high percentage of votes for neo-fascist parties in the elections. Moreover there have been racist remarks from participants against our children on this camp which is in line with German nationalism as depicted in the article.
The expressed hope that neo-fascists can be fought against by using their symbols does not find proof in reality. The opposite is true: having a German flag on your car or on your tent does not prevent nationalism, it promotes it.
No human being has a ‘natural’ need to show a flag. Such needs are produced by society and serve certain interests. Feeling we all face the same struggle, the same pressures and the same constraints from political and economic leaders, we should overcome national flags, borders and nationalism. They are used to divide us.
The article states that in France an ‘over-the-top’ nationalism can be found. Does this mean that one nationalism is better than another?
Our identity is human, not national. Our strength is unity and solidarity, not wealth or where we come from. Therefore, especially on an event like global village, we should show the symbols of our common struggle like the IFM flag or the the flag of our organisations, not those of our division. Put down the national flags!
