International Day of Peace

The International Day of Peace was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981. In 2002, the day was set to fall on 21 September every year. The aim of the International Day of Peace is to devote a specific time for the UN and the people of the world to promote the ideals of peace, and to demonstrate their commitment to peace. The idea is to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and groups of people.

The Day provides an opportunity for individuals, groups, organisations and nations to create practical acts of Peace on a shared date.

Also look at Do something about - Conflict and Peace here on the Global Village website, for other ideas of activities you could. Remember that an important point of the International Day of Peace is to get out and tell other people about it, to raise awareness. If more people know about and understand the importance of working towards peace, more people will get involved.
