 Education

What needs to be done?

These are some of the changes that are needed to ensure more children (and particularly girls), in the poorest parts of the world, are able to get a primary education:

  • Abolish fees and charges, making primary education compulsory as well as free.
  • Prohibit the worst forms of child labour.
  • Provide extra incentives to help compensate poor families for girls' labour (e.g. school lunches, payments to poor families).
  • Cancel unpayable debts, so governments can concentrate spending on education.
  • Increase aid, and provide full, predictable and long-term funding to countries with a plan to increase primary education levels.
  • Increase recruitment of female teachers, and provide better training to all teachers.
